CELEBRATE THE BUNGALOW – Tuku 25 Whakatū
The “Californian Bungalow” was the favoured house of the 1920’s in New Zealand. Cosy and charming and built of native timbers, over 70 of them are still being lived in, here in Nelson in The Wood. Because we are now in the 2020s, as part of the 2025 Tuku (Heritage) Festival, we are celebrating their 100th birthday! We’ll start with a short guided walk in the southern part of The Wood (about 1.5km) past a variety of bungalows, from 75 Tasman St, along Avon Tce, Milton Street and to Halifax St East, during which we hope to meet some of the inhabitants. Then we drive to
Fairfield House (bring your own car) for afternoon tea, where we will have stories, photographs and music.

MEETING PLACE: 2pm on the Maitai River Bank opposite 75 Tasman Street
