Resourceful Craft 2024 / Pencil brush

Details

Date:
September 7
Time:
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Resourceful Craft 2024 is a programme of craft workshops teaching resourceful skills for the wellbeing of people and planet. We want to share traditional craft practices that will provide you with new skills and a new relationship with local materials and the resources that are around you.

Learn how to make a small versatile brush using wood and fibres sourced from local surrounds. Starting by making a very fine tī kōuka cord using a European twining technique, this workshop also teaches skills in fibre preparation and extraction, basic hole drilling, and a useful lashing technique. These little brushes are useful in many ways, including in the kitchen for oiling pans, in the workshop for oiling wood, for applying slip to pottery, or for childrens’ water painting.
